Sonia Case

Sonia started life as an actor performing to young people in schools and colleges. She played a small but vital character in the BBC’s original serialisation of Poldark!

In the '80s she entered the heady world of advertising and marketing, enjoying handling the advertising campaign for Walls Cornetto (“Give it to me”)!

Another career move took Sonia into teaching, giving her licence to promote her love of stories and stage extravagant end of year productions. Just before retirement she had opened up a brand new school in South London with a sharp focus on creativity and the arts in general.

Sonia grew up in Richmond upon Thames with her refugee parents from Germany and Austria and her two older sisters. The household was non-religious and non Kosher but nonetheless she always felt a ‘difference’ between their family and others.

During lockdown she decided to revisit her mother’s video testimony on leaving Nazi Germany, and decided there and then to tell her mother’s story in a form that was accessible, engaging and thought provoking. It had to be a fictionalised account that would grab readers and keep them turning the pages. She hopes she has achieved this with Burying the Ghosts.
