Swami Premananda

Swami Premananda is a spiritual master who, as a teenager already, dedicated his life to serving others and teaching true and pure spirituality. He was born in Sri Lanka on 17 November 1951 and left his physical body in South India on 21 February 2011.

Swamiji’s patience and unconditional love, as well as his ability to face any problems in life with unwavering faith, equanimity and joy, were limitless. He spent many hours listening to people’s problems, helping them to solve them and comfort them, and guiding them towards a life of inner peace and happiness. Swamiji’s teachings are universal and transcend any barriers of race, background or religion. His life was an inspiration to all who met him.

Swamiji started a spiritual community (ashram) in Matale, Sri Lanka in the 1970s, which was destroyed during the beginning of the civil war there in 1983. He then moved to South India where he started a new ashram, the Sri Premananda Ashram, which is flourishing. Swamiji also set up Sri Premananda Centres and Premananda Youth Groups in many countries all over the world. The aim of the ashram, Centres and Groups is to offer spiritual guidance and help to all who come there and to offer service to those in need throughout the world.

Swamiji’s mahasamadhi (the great and final samadhi available to a saint is the act of consciously and intentionally leaving one’s body) was on 21 February 2011. Although Swamiji is not present with us physically, his divine grace, guidance and teachings continue to uplift and help those who come in contact with him.
