Luis Manuel Silva

Luis Manuel Silva is a Portuguese writer born in Azurém, Guimarães. Between 1971 and 1974 he was drafted into the colonial war in Angola — an experience that shaped his literary voice and where he began writing, almost daily, in letters he never stopped composing. After a long professional career, he retired in 2013, opened old trunks of manuscripts, and returned to writing. He is the author of six books exploring love, war, memory, and political conscience — from the Portuguese maritime expansion to the colonial war, from contemporary geopolitical conflict to the quiet endurance of ordinary lives.
