Kyle Vernon is a Texas author, educator, and lifelong storyteller whose work is deeply rooted in the landscapes, history, and character of the American West.
Raised in Midland, Texas, he spent much of his youth working in the Davis Mountains, a place that left a lasting impression on him and continues to shape his fiction. Its dark skies, sudden weather, rugged canyons, old forts, and long memories provide the setting and atmosphere for his Davis Mountains ghost stories, including *A Davis Mountains Ghost Story* and *Echoes of a Command*.
Vernon has spent more than three decades in education and currently teaches astronomy at Frenship High School in West Texas. His teaching career has taken him well beyond the classroom, including years spent overseas and time teaching U.S. military personnel. Those experiences, combined with a lifelong interest in science, history, astronomy, and the people of West Texas, often find their way into his writing.
In addition to his supernatural and historical fiction for adults, Vernon writes books for younger readers. His children’s work includes the *Digby the Church Mouse* stories and the *Young Texan Readers Series*, which combines humor, adventure, science, wildlife, and a distinctly Texas sense of place.
Whether writing about a haunted cavalry command, a prairie dog city, a mysterious West Texas landscape, or mice facing an unlikely adventure, Vernon enjoys stories in which ordinary people encounter something unexpected and must decide what to do next.
He lives in Lubbock, Texas, with his wife, Teri. When he is not teaching or writing, he is usually thinking about astronomy, Texas history, the next book, or some new reason to return to the Davis Mountains.
