I am a marine biologist working for over 40 years in this field and have a deep love and understanding for the animals and plants of our oceans. I spent much of my childhood ‘rock-pooling’ and this led me onto a lifelong career protecting and learning about the sea and its inhabitants. Maybe, one child reading these books will feel inspired to learn more and explore the sea for themselves thus setting them on to a fantastic journey of discovery.

I have taught children of all ages about the sea and there is nothing to beat the wonder in their eyes when they hold a crab or shrimp gently for the first time in their hands.

The series of books "Between the Land and the Sea" places you within a rockpool where the animals help each other to survive the dangers that the sea throws at them either be it natural or man made. Whilst the stories are fiction, many of the details about each animal you encounter are correct and the pages to share with an adult at the end of each book hopefully will make the young reader aware of the problems we can cause in our beautiful oceans or provide some interesting factors about some of the characters in the books.

I like to use bold colourful illustrations that bring out the best in the fantastic rockpool animals that are commonly seen around the world and will be discovered on families adventures to the seaside.
