Hi, I am Kennedy Trengrove, a writer living in the picturesque port city of Fremantle, Western Australia.
My old dad taught me the power of laughter, so my first novel, Almost Down to Earth, is a funny and exciting adventure story set in a tiny bush town in my home state. (I once lived in such a town.) My heroine, feisty organic farmer M'bali, thinks that finding love and establishing an organic farm are quite hard enough, thanks very much. Little does she realise that she will soon be trying to convince the down-to-earth citizens of tiny Quimbleton that they must join her in a fight against the evil intergalactic empire Genes-R-Us. Most of us would find that hard to believe. I certainly would.
Genetic engineering will be of great benefit to us humans by eliminating horrible genetic diseases. But being only human, scientists will undoubtedly stuff things up and do unintended harm when they release their genetically modified plants and animals into what little is left of the natural world. The gentle black cockatoos in my profile picture are in Kaarakin Cockatoo Conservation Centre, a wildlife sanctuary in the hills outside my city. These super-smart birds are critically endangered. Many, many precious and beautiful animal species are now endangered and fast disappearing. They are my concern when I write.
