David Hood

David Hood spent most of his formative years in Cape Town with shorts stints in both the UK and Saudi Arabia before studying Zoology and Entomology and going off to the wilds of Botswana, Zambia and Kruger National Park to work as a ranger and lodge manager at various remote safari camps. He has travelled widely from Indonesia and Southeast Asia to South America, continental Europe and East Africa. Nowadays he spends his time between farming in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, teaching school kids about nature and, true to his surname, coaching archery. He enjoys hunting for the pot and tracking wild animals and has co-developed iTrack Africa, an app to help nature lovers identify the spoor of Southern African mammals. Together with his wife Cathy, he is trying very hard to civilize three energetic children who love the outdoors when they aren’t stuck in a book.
