William J. Sobolewski was born in 1938 in Vancouver, Washington. He went to grade school and
junior high school in Vancouver, Washington. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in
Portland, Oregon, in 1956. After graduation, he completed two years at Clark College in Vancouver
where he majored in engineering. He received an AA from Clark College in 1958. After completion
at Clark College, he enlisted in the US Army. He spent twenty-five months in Germany with the 299th
Engineer Battalion (C), which was under the Fifth Army Corps. He received an honorable discharge
in May 1964 after three years of active duty and three years of inactive reserve duty. After completion
of active duty in 1961, he enrolled at Seattle University where he majored in civil engineering.
Philosophy and theology were his minors at Seattle University. He received a BS degree from Seattle
University in 1964. After working six and a half years with the US Army Corps of Engineers, Portland
District, he took a leave of absence to attend Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. There, he
majored in sanitary engineering and water resources. He received an MS degree from Oregon State
University in 1971. He returned to the US government and worked twenty-five years for the US
Environmental Protection Agency in Seattle, Washington, and Portland, Oregon. He retired in 1995
with thirty-four years of government service. After his federal career, he worked as consultant to the
Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, Warm Springs, Oregon, and several private individuals. He is
a retired registered professional engineer in Oregon and Washington.
Mary (Redlinger) Sobolewski was born in 1944 in Virginia, Minnesota. In 1958, after living in
North Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois, she moved with her father and his family to Kansas City, Kansas.
In Kansas City, Kansas, she graduated from Bishop Miege High School in 1962. She then attended
the St. Mary’s College (Sisters of Charity School) in Leavenworth, Kansas, where she majored in
nursing. After three years of on-the-job training in various hospitals, she graduated with a nursing
diploma in 1967. In 1968, she moved to Portland, Oregon, and then Vancouver, Washington. Initially,
she worked at the old St. Joseph Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for about six months. Then
she worked for several different doctors. She worked for CDM Home Care Services. She was on the
CDM Advisory Council and was honored as being president. In June 2005, the Pastoral Council of
St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Camas, Washington, recognized her for her volunteerism in the
parish with the Deo Gratias Award.
Bill and Mary (Redlinger) Sobolewski have been married since August 23, 1969. They are
members of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Vancouver, Washington. They have five children and
twelve grandchildren
