Christopher Powers

Christopher D Powers family originated in southwest Virginia in a place in the mountains called Powell Valley. A little town named Big Stone Gap is where his family roots can be directly traced. On his paternal family tree, they were coal miners and preachers of the word of God. On his maternal family tree, they were also coal miners and tradesmen. Christopher was born in upstate New York, in the city of Syracuse in 1972, and was raised by his mother and maternal grandparents. He has three brothers, two sisters, and raised two children of his own. He attended Skaneateles High School and graduated in 1990. He has worked as a tradesman for most of his adult life and still resides in upstate New York. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys kayaking, hunting, fishing and hiking. As a child he developed a love for reading books and often lost himself in the stories that he read. This passion for reading and his imagination led him to begin to write short stories of his own at a young age. This writing of stories was encouraged by his mother, Lou Ellen, and is the catalyst of what eventually led him to writing poetry. Christopher started writing poems in his teen years and has continued this passion into adulthood. Writing from his heart he expresses himself through his words. Christopher Powers also writes under the pen name Chris Powers, an abbreviation of his given name.
