David Contreras is an author, a retired public high school history teacher, athletic director, and former football and baseball coach. He and his wife, Kirsti of thirty-eight years are the proud parents of two sons, and grandparents to one grandson. In January of 2011, their hearts were broken forever when they lost their younger son, Nick, age thirteen. Both they and their older son continue to grieve the loss of Nick to this very day.
The tragic loss of their son, Nick, has led them to not only seek grief support for themselves, but it has also led them towards following God's lead in using their own grief by helping others who are also working through grief, especially the grief for a child. Both David and his wife volunteer as facilitators for a chapter of GriefShare at their home church, and David also facilitates at a small father’s bereavement group that meets once a month. He has also spoken at grief centered events such The Night of Remembrance at Bayside Adventure Church, and the annual Christmas Candle Lighting ceremonies for a local chapter of The Bereaved Parents of the USA.
David’s first published book, “Forever 13”, was released to the public in August 2023. His second book, titled, "Still Your Dad, Always My Son. A Year in The Life of a Grieving Father" was been released in January of 2025. Both books are published though Christian Faith Publishing.
Because of the grief journey he has travelled and continues to travel, David feels compelled through his writing and sharing of his experiences to help other grieving parents to not have to walk through their grief journey alone.
