Hi Everyone!
Thank you for looking at my first book, Kevin's Life.
I live with my family in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. I was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, but I lived in Southern Ontario for many years. My family and I moved back to Sault Ste. Marie in 2011. We take full advantage of the natural beauty all around us. In the summer, we fish and hike. In the winter, we fish, snowmobile and snowshoe.
The night we found Kevin on the side of the road, we were just out for a simple evening walk after dinner. You never know when something special will happen.
Telling the story "Kevin's Life" is important to me for a few reasons. I want to share our success in rehabilitating Kevin and eventually releasing him to live his life so that other families will feel confident and willing to help wildlife in need. I also want to help parents and grandparents spark interest in nature in children - these days, kids have so much in the house to keep them busy, it's sometimes difficult to get them outside. Lastly, I am so proud of Alicia's research on the internet, and Erica's willingness to keep Kevin fed, and his cage clean, and the way my husband built Kevin a nesting box. Everyone worked together and made decisions together - and that work and those decisions saved a life.
I hope you and your child or grandchild enjoy reading Kevin's Life. Maybe you will feel inspired to connect with the nature in your back yard by installing a game camera? Maybe you can teach your child or grandchild how to research the animals you capture pictures of on the internet? Maybe some day you will save a life.
Check out the video I've uploaded. The video captures Kevin restarting his wild life. If you look closely, you will the see moment that was my inspiration for the second last illustration in the book.
I would love to hear from you.
