Sonny Assu

Sonny Assu (Ligwiłda'xw/Kwakwaka'wakw) was raised in North Delta, BC, over 250 km from his ancestral home on Vancouver Island. Having been raised as your everyday average suburbanite, it wasn't until he was eight years old that he discovered his Kwakwaka'wakw heritage. Later in life, this discovery would be the conceptual focal point that helped launch his unique art practice.

Heritage House and University of Washington Press published Sonny Assu: A Selective History, a stunning retrospective of his career.

His artworks can be found on the covers of numerous publications, and he was thrilled to create a variant cover for Johnnie Christmas's Tartarus #9 (Image Comics).
