Cathy Kern

Born in the US, and now living in New Zealand, Cathy Kern is the author of My View of the Bright Moon, a novel praised by 4x Pushcart prize nominee, Richard Holinger, as 'fully accomplished fiction that reads beautifully.'

Cathy has been writing since she was a child in northern Illinois, creating stories under her pillow - with the help of a flashlight - instead of sleeping. During those nights, the rumble of trucks on a distant highway, stoked a wanderlust that led to a year of solo around-the-world travel and, ultimately, a new home in New Zealand, over eight thousand miles away from her family.

Finishing her first career, as a Clio-award winning copywriter, to follow a lifelong passion to work in child abuse prevention, she held roles in New Zealand’s health and well-being sector, including mental health, and is currently involved in climate/health/and resilience efforts.

Growing up in an animal-crazy family, and passionate about animals herself, Cathy has from a young age, volunteered in animal shelters and sanctuaries, protested against the killing of wild Kaimanawa horses, served as a national spokesperson raising awareness of the link between family violence and animal abuse, and trained in equine assisted therapy. The latter inspired her debut novel.

When not writing, reading, or traveling, Cathy’s favorite place to be is in, on, or under the sea.

While quite fond of most living creatures, she especially loves her husband, their rescued Siberian Forest cat, Dame Pistachio, and, of course, horses.
