Kate Frood

Kate retired from primary headship in 2021 after almost 4 decades working in primary education. Her second headship was at Eleanor Palmer Primary School in Camden which became a national teaching school in 2012. Despite a first degree in English and a masters in children's literature, Kate fell into teaching mathematics throughout her two headships and developed a specialism in - and love of - reasoning and problem solving. Kate taught two maths lessons weekly right until the end of her time in school.

Throughout her career, Kate has inspired children, teachers and parents to love maths and has held an uncompromising approach to learning 'the basics'. Leading action research alongside classteachers across Camden, and with an uncompromising eye on the classroom, Kate has written books that enliven fluency routines. These books can be purchased from Eleanor Palmer Primary School.

Since 'retiring' , Kate works in school improvement across London and beyond. Kate was awarded an OBE in 2017 for services to education.
