Peter B. Robinson

Peter Robinson is an American lawyer who defended former Bosnian Serb President Radovan Karadzic at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) from 2008-2016. He also represented the former Chief of Staff of the Yugoslavian Army, General Dragoljub Ojdanic on appeal at the ICTY.

He also defended Joseph Nzirorera, the former President of the Rwanda National Assembly and Secretary-General of the ruling MRND political party, at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) from 2002-2010.

After the United Nations’ International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals assumed the functions of the ICTR and ICTY, he defended numerous clients seeking post-conviction relief there, including Radovan Karadzic, Augustin Ngirabatware, Jean de Dieu Kamuhanda, General Augustin Bizimungu, and Laurent Semanza. He also defended Francois-Xavier Nzuwonemeye, who was unlawfully detained in Niger following his acquittal at the ICTR.

He also defended several of his fellow defence lawyers in disciplinary matters at the Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL), Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), and ICTY.

From 2019-2020, he participated in the defence of Alfred Yekatom, a former militia leader in the Central African Republic at the International Criminal Court (ICC) before returning to the United States at the start of the pandemic.

He now lives in North Carolina with his wife Jeanne, and close to his daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Daniel Mott, and their dog Maya.
