Timothy D Boyle

Raised in Arizona, I majored in physics at Arizona State University, followed by graduate school in meteorology at Florida State University. That was interrupted by the draft. I ended up not having to serve in active duty, and later went to Japan as a short-term missionary with the United Methodist Church. I had studied Japanese on a junior-year-abroad program at the East-West Center in Hawaii, and that is what sparked my interest in Chinese characters. After attending seminary at both Asbury and Fuller Theological Seminaries, my Japanese wife and I returned to Japan, where we spent the rest of our lives until retirement in 2016. We now live half the year in Florida (winter, of course) and May through October in Nagano, Japan.
