I grew up in Rural Alabama, with parents who allowed my creative imagination and the freedom to explore our family’s large farm and forests (along with my cousin Bobby) (2 years older). We always had something going on from an early age and were never satisfied by or wanted “Toys”. They were boring.
We built boats, forts, downhill soap-box race cars, “flips” (sling-shots), and rode horses. If we had nothing going, we would get a piece of wood, and our pocket knives, and carve something. We were always CREATING.
I believe that this desire and drive carried into my adult life. When I would see opportunities, or problems, or hear someone say, “What we need is a ………..”, the wheels in my mind would begin spinning. Many times, this stimulus resulted in a new product.
The result of this was, in my early 40s, I sold out my business, bought a 52-foot sailboat, and left San Diego, California, on an Around-The-World Sailing Cruise.
Six months later, I sailed into Costa Rica, planning to stay a couple of months. Six months later, all of my world cruise plans changed and I made Costa Rica my new HOME.
The rest is history. My life had changed since leaving the California lifestyle and ‘Comfort Zone Corporate Job’.
