Diego Piay Augusto

My name is Diego Piay Augusto, and I am from Pontevedra. I have been working in the archaeology sector for more than 20 years. I have participated in more than 150 archaeological interventions, holding all the positions related to the activity: assistant, technician and excavation director. At present I complement the development of my activity with university teaching and conducting historical research. All this has allowed me to understand that the study of the past must be integral: excavating, writing and teaching are the only possible ways to reach the final goal: recovering history and transmitting it.

My activity as an archaeologist has been developed mainly in Galicia, although I have participated in archaeological excavations in such emblematic sites as Pompeii or Piazza Armerina. As a historian, my main interest is the figure of Priscillianus and the Priscillianist movement, a subject with which I obtained my PhD cum laude and international mention in 2016. However, my research has also focused on Roman villas and the recovery of historical biographies and some of the most important monuments in Galicia. Reflection of all this work is the publication of 6 books and more than 50 articles.
