Jo Stanley

Jo Stanley is the indie author-illustrator of The Fantastic Red-bills Got My Back. Her book about a species of birds that no longer face extinction, was at #302 in Teen and Young Adult School and Education on May 8th, 2025. From researching dance to music to the number of front toes on a rat to bring this symbiotic relationship to life, this marks Jo’s first book.

Where a Cape Water Buffalo named Billiam sheds a bright light on disease-carrying ticks, and recommends attracting the peerless Red-billed Oxpeckers to call your very own. They like yodeling, square dancing, guarding like no buffalo's business, and tackling despicable parasites.

When Jo isn't creating digital art for her next book about nature, she likes legal thrillers, listening to "Linus and Lucy" by the Vince Guaraldi Trio, and naming the wildlife that visits her bird feeders.

Jo lives in Ohio with her husband and two dogs.
