Mimi Chao

Mimi Chao is the author-illustrator behind Mimochai, an independent studio and small press based in Los Angeles. Mimochai creates illustrative works that encourage a sense of wonder and exploration in all ages, treating picture books as an art form.

Mimi is a former lawyer who found her way back to her childhood dream of creating art and stories. Her writing is influenced by her personal journey, nature, travels, perennial philosophy, traditional Chinese & Japanese art, and mid-century modern design. Through her picture books, she is interested in sharing mindfulness practices and honoring the concept of 天人合一 (tian ren he yi), the unity between human, nature, and spirit.
