Surveyor Efik (not Surveyor by profession) is a Canadian Climate Activist, Climate Poet, Author and Environmental Artist. He is the Director of Global Climate Connect based in Canada and a member of Toronto350 as well as Canada Africa Partnership (CAP) Network. He is a Fellow of Climate Change Governance at the Wageningen UR in The Netherlands and currently studying Environmental Arts and Justice at York University, Toronto Canada.
As a Climate Activist, Efik is inclined to the vision of spreading climate actions like the gospel and achieving this, according to him, lies in the pursuit of climate literacy for the vast majority of global citizens who need to properly understand climate change in a non-scientific and less-verbose language format in order to be inspired or propelled into taking action for the climate. It gave birth to the initiative of producing his first collection of climate poems (The Sky Cries), using free-verse poetry and illustrative arts to simplify or demystify climate change to increase climate educational literacy and participatory involvement of most global citizens in climate-solution actions. This ultimately underlined the mission of democratizing climate change understanding to democratize climate actions. He believes that the power of knowledge and understanding propels action.
“The Sky Cries” and the upcoming ones “Just One Tree” and “Climate Pledge” are laced with the Buy, Read and Act (BRA) concept. All buyers, readers, donee and beneficiaries of the books are enjoined to “act” by signing the climate pledge, plant a tree and upload your photo/video, obtain climate pledge certificate and join the Global Climate Connect to further consolidate your climate literacy potential and democratize climate actions.
Some of Surveyor Efik’s climate poems are produced into digital documentaries in YouTube and other social media such as: “As The Climate Changes” and “Things Fall Apart”.
