Jay Word

Jay Word writes under a pen name and is a mother of two young adults. Born and raised in South London, with a passion for reading and writing since secondary school, it was becoming a full-time wheelchair user in 2023, that motivated Jay to become an author of fiction.

Jay explores family dynamics and the social issues faced by marginalised groups of society, and she connects the characters in her stories to show how different worlds sometimes collide, in unlikely ways.

Jay aims to entertain, and educate with her stories, and hopes to get the less avid readers into reading again, or for the first time.

In June 2024, Word's home was badly destroyed by a fire. She was living out of hotels for more than four months. It was an experience that writing helped her to get her through. Now, wherever tragedy strikes Jay Word's life, her first motivation is to write.

Word's debut poetry book was released on Valentine’s Day 2025 and the reception it received, inspired her to create a poetic journal anthology series. This four book series features poems written daily in 2025.

In September 2025, Word became a postgraduate student at Goldsmiths University, studying MA Creative Writing and Education. She intends to teach online writing workshops in the future, with the aim of assisting aspiring writers.
