My first paid article was published in the Montreal Gazette in 1977 about the fabulous, lost, Avro Arrow supersonic interceptor fighter aircraft. I have published four historical novels in the Award-winning Smithyman Saga, two commissioned family histories, and chaired the Editorial Board and wrote much of the history of Kingston Yacht Club: Setting the Mark 1896-2021. After a career managing medical laboratories in a teaching hospital I went back to school and received my doctorate in Canadian Colonial History in 2021. I crewed aboard the tall ship St. Lawrence II (in the photo background), serving as deckhand, occasional helmsman and sea cook for 15 trainees and crew. I constructed a 32 foot sailing yacht from scratch and find sailing to be one of the things that make life truly worthwhile.
