Mark Smith is a respected HR consultant with a Ph.D. in organizational psychology and key experience in talent acquisition and assessments of both job applicants and employees. He spent five years at the Society for Human Resource Management after more than a decade as a consultant for HR departments in the private sector. Throughout his career, he has worked with all levels of employees (from hourly rate to executive levels) from different professions and industries. He has developed a reputation for creative and strategic approaches to assessment validation and research projects for all types of workplace issues. He currently works as the managing consultant for A Better Choice Hire and does regular work with Zennia Research.
In recent years, he presented expert testimony to the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce about the use of assessments for skills-based hiring. He also worked with the Board on Human-Systems Integration for the National Academy of Science regarding the future of work.
He received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees (I-O Psychology) from the University of South Florida and his B.A. (Psychology) from Hope College in Holland, Michigan. He grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Mark and his wife, Kira, are also accomplished ballroom dancers and are in the Gold level of Arthur Murray Dance in Alexandria, VA.
