"Milepost 75" tells the story of the events and adventures Sandra planned to accomplish to celebrate during the year she turned 75. She considers herself a late starter at almost everything and describes how she did not get started in her active lifestyle until her mid-40’s by tackling several astonishing Grand Canyon hikes. "Milepost 75," her first memoir was published in 2024 just after she turned 80.
"Aging Adventurously at 80 How I Wrote a Book and Got It Published," was recently published in 2025. Sandra was inspired to write this book because that's what her readers wanted to know. In her second memoir, Sandra answers readers' questions about her late start in writing her first book and getting it published. She also digs deeper into her brand-new literary lifestyle as she writes, gives book talks, meets with book clubs... and continues to answer questions.
Despite having arthritis, atrial fibrillation, spinal fusion surgery, and joint replacement surgeries in both hips and knees, she stays active and encourages others to join her - always walking, never running. Being the fastest has never been her goal. Her goals in treks and even in her daily walks are to move in nature, notice its beauty, and connect with others.
Creating unique and precious memories, Sandra has participated in several hikes and events with every member of her family. She has completed several challenging treks in the Grand Canyon, the Inca Trail in Peru, the Camino de Santiago in Spain, Hadrian's Wall Path in England, and the West Highland Way in Scotland.
At 81, Sandra continues to move forward, slow and steady, every day, not only along trails but also in life.
