As a young girl, Karen aspired to be a nurse and a teacher. Throughout her life she has been helping others in whatever situation life puts her in. Circumstances gave her an education as a medical mom. She currently works as an early childhood educator in kindergarten.
She never aspired to be an author. While spending time in hospital rooms with her children, she kept journals of the experiences. These experiences and journals became the source and catalyst for her book; her story. She has contributed to two other books, lending her experiences to others who look for meaning and support in the face of tragedy.
When she is not in the classroom, Karen is leader and a group facilitator with a chapter of The Compassionate Friends, a peer support group for bereaved parents.
