Augustine Chimelu Emuwa, or Augie as he's known, is the founder and principal consultant of Identity Capital Consulting in Chicago, IL. Growing up with a mother diagnosed with schizophrenia and an immigrant father who was a child soldier in Nigeria's civil wars, Augie's childhood shaped his dedication to social and cultural impact work. He believes in the power of young people to create a more equitable future, guiding his roles as a mentor and advisor at Chicago Public Schools and several local community based organizations across the country.
Augie's inspiration for co-authoring "The Social Capital Quotient" stems from his deep conviction that leaders must cultivate mutually beneficial relationships with their organizations, fostering passion, marked growth, and innovation. This text serves as an ode to tireless public servants looking to codify their legacy, recognizing that educators must transcend titles to craft a bigger picture and legacy. This text takes them on a step-by-step guided process that allows them to apply simple practices and principles that organize their interests and aptitudes with intentional steps that they can take to make headway.
Augie's personal journey is rooted in leading transformation efforts in challenging K-12 schools, such as his experience as a school principal in Chicago's "The Jungle" neighborhood. As a school principal at an under-resourced school, Augie began to experience a shift in belief systems about how to impact change. Rather than experiencing burnout, Augie believes he "believed out," leading to the writing of this book as an ode to public service leaders at the crossroads of their career. As a result, this book aims to create mutuality in the workplace, highlighting the importance of genuine, reciprocal relationships.
Augie's academic background includes a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and Management from Jackson State University, a Master's of Arts in Teaching with a focus on diverse learning, and an additional Master's degree in School Administration & Organizational Change from Roosevelt University. He also completed leadership training through a national principal selection residency founded at Harvard University.
