John S. Ferrell

John S. Ferrell earned a master’s degree in history and worked as an archivist at the National Archives and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Taking some time out from his archives career, he served on the staffs of RAIN: Journal of Appropriate Technology, the California Office of Appropriate Technology, and the Utne Reader. Later, he wrote Fruits of Creation, a biography of George Washington Carver that portrayed him as a forerunner of the sustainability movement. That led to a wide-ranging exploration of how other people in Carver’s generation and later played that role.
