Isabelle Dornic is a French-Canadian author born in France near Le Mans. Captivated by Quebec from the age of twenty, she has lived there since 1993. Her dual cultural background is one of the strengths of her writing, which draws on her experiences in both France and Quebec.
Holder of a PhD in Literature from Laval University and a specialist in identity and memory, she taught at university for over fifteen years before turning to the business world. Today, she channels her passion for words into writing fiction in various forms (novels, screenplays, short stories, etc.).
Her first novel, *La promesse du cerf-volant*, is a moving family saga and a story of resilience centred on the Costa family and the daily struggle of 15-year-old Thomas, who suffers from cystic fibrosis. Through a sensitive, multi-voiced narrative, Isabelle Dornic crafts a poignant story that explores unconditional love, shattered dreams, promises kept, and the simple joys stolen by illness. A true ode to resilience and a vibrant celebration of life, this touching novel blends family drama, hope and humanity with great delicacy.
Her favourite themes—family bonds in the face of adversity, inner strength and life’s small joys—make her a fresh voice in contemporary French-language literature (Quebec / France).
