Weston Carls is a photographer from Austin, Texas who graduated with a journalism degree and a concentration in multimedia design from The University of Texas.
After graduating, he served as the creative director for a monthly fitness publication, Austin Fit Magazine (AFM). Some of his responsibilities included: curating content and storyboarding, writing articles, creating and managing social media, designing the magazine, and directing photography. By the end of his tenure at AFM, he accumulated the production of over 220 issues, directed over 1,500 photo shoots, and produced over 10,000 pages of content for various publications.
Weston had never taken a professional photo before until he was mistaken as a photographer in 2015 by a local gym. The next day he decided to buy a Nikon D750 and started shooting fitness trainers for free. Within a few months he had people asking how much he charged and was presented with the opportunity to photograph a cover feature of Outdoor Voices founder, Tyler Haney.
Weston founded TheFitBiz, Inc., an endorphin-generating creative agency that offers a variety of content creation services. His mission is to bring more energy and creativity into building stronger communities through impactful content. His first yoga book photography opportunity came by the way of Human Kinetics’ Power Yoga book by Leah Cullis. He also traveled to Puerto Rico to photograph Human Kinetics’ Rocket Yoga book by David Kyle. You will now see his work inside Lululemon stores in Austin and San Antonio.
