Ken Rand

Ken Rand is an award-winning math instructor who retired in 2015 after forty-seven years of teaching. His teaching experiences include a variety of educational levels, beginning with JHS in the Bronx, New York, and then HS in White Plains, New York, and then two- and four-year colleges in California.

Known for his classroom story-telling technique, Ken has found a way to bring those classic stories to life in his Amazon bestselling book, One Student at a Time: A Teacher’s Journey. He is also writing a follow-up book with co-author Kim Thomas titled One Teacher at a Time: Teach-Inspire-Change.

1967 when Ken first became a teacher, he pioneered innovative and interactive classroom activities that helped him connect and engage with his students. In 1976, Ken was hired by Creative Publications as an editor, author, and director of product development of classroom supplements. He also co-authored their popular “Handy Math” activity book series.

Longing to go back to his passion for teaching, Ken left Creative Publications and became a full-time college math professor at Hartnell College, CA., and also created and published games (Dominque, Shanghai Rummy, DOTT-O) that have been sold in retail stores such as Macy’s, J.C. Penney’s, KB Toy & Hobby and Toys R Us.

While Ken was at Hartnell College, CA, he won numerous 'teacher of the year' awards and was voted one of the Top 100 teachers in the United States. While teaching at Hartnell College, Ken wrote and published an algebra textbook, Solving the Mystery. His crowning achievement at Hartnell College may be his creation of the Math Academy, an extremely successful summer and winter intersession STEM grant program designed to prepare students for their next math courses. Soon after retirement, Ken became a presenter and keynote speaker at numerous statewide and national conferences.

Other than inspiring students, Ken’s greatest impact may be on the many teachers who have been his colleagues and those who have attended his interactive and entertaining workshops and presentations.
