Kim Soles

Kim Soles is a writer, photographer, and designer whose work explores imagination, transformation, and the inner lives of children. Her debut middle-grade/YA novel, Pearl Twist’s Magical Life, has captured the hearts of readers of all ages through its blend of magical realism, emotional depth, and richly imagined storytelling.

Set in an authentic New York landscape, Soles’s writing follows the transformative journey of ten-year-old Pearl Twist—from worry to joy—within a carousel world where animals come alive and imagination shapes reality. Her work speaks to young readers while resonating deeply with adults who cherish whimsical, meaningful stories.

Soles’s short nonfiction and flash fiction have appeared in respected literary publications including The Hive: Apiary Magazine, 6S Review (edited by Lydia Davis), and Mr. Beller’s Neighborhood: New York Stories. From 2007 to 2012, she honed her craft under the guidance of writers Minter Krotzer and Hal Sirowitz in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In addition to her writing, Kim Soles is an accomplished photographer and designer. Her passion for creative work with children has led her to teach and facilitate arts programming for over twenty years. This work grew into Indigo Nature Arts, a thirteen-year innovative, nature-based summer arts program in Philadelphia, where children from diverse backgrounds explore creativity, storytelling, and connection to the natural world.
