A native of Pittsburgh, PA, I have spent more than 40 years as a journalist. I graduated from Duquesne University in 1978 with a degree in journalism and speech communication, and spent the first few years of my career as a newspaper reporter. In 1984, I moved to New York City and landed a job with a national foodservice trade magazine. That began a more than 30-year career as a writer and editor at three different foodservice publications. I left my last job, as the editor in chief of Foodservice Director magazine, in 2015, in order to explore different avenues of writing. My love of history and my passion for Pittsburgh, my hometown, led to the publication of two books devoted to the city's history.
The first, "Iconic Pittsburgh: The City's 30 Most Memorable People, Places and Things," was published in February 2020 by The History Press. A follow-up, "Colorful Characters of Pittsburgh," was released by the History Press in October 2023.
During this time, I also kept busy writing about the foodservice industry, which has included writing "Whitsons Way: The History of Whitsons Culinary Group," which was published in May 2024.
