Survivor, Author, Advocate

Struck by an intoxicated driver in a life-changing moment on September 7, 2019, Emily Silver Owen's world was turned upside down. In an inspiring literary memoir debut, The Best of the Worst: My TRUE Story of Surviving and Thriving After a Traumatic Brain Injury, published by Rainmaker Publishing, Owen's book shares a profound glimpse into the life-altering journey of getting her life back after suffering a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

After discovering her newfound mission of advocating for TBI awareness, she hopes to inspire others with her story of survival and resilience. The Best of the Worst was recently added to the curriculum of a memoir course in the English Department at California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt. Emily's article about her experience of becoming neurodivergent after her TBI, “I Survived Being Hit, but Woke Up Forever Changed,” was recently published by Newsweek in November 2024.

Emily has two books in the making--her first children’s book for a series focused on problems neurodivergent children might face, and her second book has the working title: The Misadventures of a Brain Injured Twenty-Something Year Old.

As a first-time author and TBI survivor, Owen's now advocates for neurodivergence awareness and inspires others with her story of survival and resilience. Living in Studio City, CA, Emily continues to write and speak about her experiences.
