John A. Frye

An honors graduate of the Art Center College of Design, John A. Frye is a preeminent industrial designer and illustrator with over 25 years of experience shaping the future of transportation. As a Principal Designer and head of the digital modeling and visualization group at Honda R&D, Frye has become a master of blending traditional analog sketching with cutting-edge 3D digital tools. His professional reach extends far beyond the automotive industry, having contributed conceptual vehicle designs for global leaders such as Boeing, John Deere, and Activision. Within the world of play and cinema, he has developed iconic toy designs for the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises, as well as specialized vehicles for Marvel universe.

Frye’s distinct aesthetic—often shared through his "FryeWerk" brand—is heavily informed by mid-century racing culture and the cinematic scale of science-fiction classics like Star Wars. This fusion of retro-functionalism and futuristic vision has made him a sought-after voice in the design community. Passionate about mentoring the next generation of creators, he has served as an instructor at the Concept Design Academy, New Masters Academy, CCS, and Beaux Arts & Entertainment, where he teaches sketching, and vehicle and "mech" design for movies and video games. Based in Southern California, Frye continues to bridge the gap between practical industrial utility and the imaginative realms of entertainment design.
