Steve Gill

Steve’s first job in education, before he became a school psychologist, was as a driver’s education teacher. Then Steve had the wonderful opportunity to study school psychology and work at the university, so he followed that path.

Steve started his career as a school psychologist in a district with a large ELL population. There he realized how little he had learned about language learners prior to this experience. Over the years, he completed graduate work in ELL studies, eventually creating the ELL Critical Data Process. As of writing this, Steve has trained over 22,000 educators on the process across more than 2,000 school districts in multiple states. The ELL Critical Data Process is being used in at least 14 countries as of the summer of 2024. Steve and Ushani (Steve’s coauthor and wife) are both working on learning/mastering their fourth language and have written nine books together.

Steve has as one of his hobbies photography and is also an avid reader. The combination of his experiences and hobbies led to the most recent book, Happiness Through Observation. This book follows several books written in his specialty area, language learners and special education.
