Rolfe Oostra

Australian, semi-resident in France, born in the Netherlands, UIMLA/UIAA, Wilderness First Aid Instructor, Rock Climbing Instructor, Scuba Instructor, Alpinist... Rolfe is a Berghaus and Stubai sponsored athlete and expedition leader of repute.

At 20, Rolfe led his first expedition to climb Mt Kenya’s North Face and since then has kept the ball rolling with a passion. He has made notable first alpine ascents in the Andes, Karakoram and Greenland and has established many new rock-climbing routes in Africa, South America and Australia. He has explored un-paddled rivers, including sections of The Congo and Amazon basin, and traversed some of the world’s most isolated deserts and tundra. After

a stint as a scuba diver he returned to doing what he loves most: mountaineering – which led to the creation of 360 Expeditions with Marni.

Rolfe is head guide for 360 Expeditions and oversees most of their itineraries and new adventures.

He is usually found at high altitude, leading expeditions on 6,7 and 8,000 metre peaks such as Mera, Ama Dablam, Manaslu, Gasherbrum II, Cho Oyu and, of course, Mount Everest.

In 2016 he did a double Cho Oyu summit in 24hrs.

Since 2019 Rolfe has held the world record for the highest altitude single-handed rescue.

In 2023 he led the first 24hr guided client ascent of Kilimanjaro, a mountain for which he holds the record for the most ascents by a foreign guide and then went for a run with his local team ‘for a dare’.

Rolfe is a sought-after expedition guide, leader and coach who is well loved for his sense of fun, warmth of leadership and creation of memorable, often life-changing adventure experiences.

He can be wild, surprising, irreverently candid and unconventional, while also being incredibly kind and most who have met him agree that he’s a legend in his own lifetime.
