Gregory Spencer

Greg Spencer, recently retired from teaching communication studies at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, has published three works of non-fiction: A Heart for Truth: Taking Your Faith to College (Baker), Awakening the Quieter Virtues (IVP), now in an expanded and updated version (Integratio Press), Reframing the Soul: How Words Transform our Faith (Leafwood), and two novels in the Three Dimensional Tale series: The Welkening (Howard) and Guardian of the Veil (Simon and Schuster/Howard). He’s published numerous articles and poems, and is working on a semi-autobiographical novel about growing up in a home with alcoholic parents, called Boomer Boy.

A fourth-generation Californian, Greg thought he would become a veterinarian but dropped his animal science major after one day. Even so, he graduated from Cal Pol, San Luis Obispo—and later received his Ph.D. from the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!). He has been working as a writer since fourth grade, when he typed out a thirty-page story about a collie and a magic eight-ball. This surefire career became sidetracked for decades when the story was thrown out by a family member who “helpfully” cleaned out his desk one day.

When not writing or speaking, Greg might be found on the tennis court or in the garden. He’s married to Janet (his First Editor par excellence), and has three married daughters, and eight grandchildren.
