Al Renzi brings his experience in business and the life sciences to create and commercialize value-added agricultural products including artisanal cheesemaking. Prior to establishing Yellow Springs Farm in 2001, Al had a lengthy career in the pharmaceutical industry. During 20 years of farming, goat animal husbandry and cheesemaking, Al, and his wife Catherine, created dozens of fresh, aged and bloomy rind cheeses. Many were award winners at the American Cheese Society and PA Farm Show. A number of Yellow Springs Farm cheeses incorporated native plants from the Farm where the Renzis also had a landscape plant nursery featuring species beneficial for water and land conservation, including building pollinator habitat. Yellow Springs Farm connected local landscape with the local food system in many ways.
Yellow Springs Farm was a grade A dairy and monitored by 3rd party audits, in addition to county, state and federal regulations. Yellow Springs Farm goat cheeses and yogurts enjoyed distribution with Whole Foods Markets, many specialty stores, and fine restaurants. In 2022, the Renzi’s created the next chapter for Yellow Springs Farm, where they hope to assist dairy producers and other non-dairy agricultural businesses and specialty food producers. They have a proven track record in creating, producing, marketing and selling value-added specialty food products in the mid-Atlantic region. Al has a B.A. in Biology, M.S. in Microbiology and an MBA.
