Bruce Thompson MD

Bruce Thompson is a medical doctor who practiced internal medicine and emergency care for more than twenty-eight years. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City, he pursued post-graduate training in primary care internal medicine at the University of Hawaii Integrated Medical Residency Program in Honolulu. During one of his rotations at Straub Medical Center, while studying sleep apnea, he was alarmed by the seriousness of this condition and its direct relationship to excess body weight. “I believe it was at this moment that I began to take an interest in the challenges of weight management.” Later, while serving a stint in the United States Air Force, he had the privilege of overseeing the cardiopulmonary unit. He soon discovered heart and lung disease rates to be much higher among service members struggling to keep healthy body weights. Since those days, he has only seen the prevalence of weight-related issues continue to grow. Today, Thompson is among the growing numbers who have incorporated hunger management into their lifestyles.

The Thompsons live an active lifestyle that mimics those of their ancestors. He exercises daily for two hours at basketball, swimming, Tai Chi Chuan, and time-restricted feeding. Staying on top of the latest in his field of medicine is a priority. He regularly reviews journal articles for continued medical education, attends medical grand rounds, and discussions with peers.

A`ohe lokomaika`i i nele i ke pāna`I, a Hawaiian saying, reminding us of the value of our honorable deeds, “no kind deed has ever lacked its reward.” Thompson believes in spreading the knowledge of health and well-being to one individual who then tells another the good news, “the answers to health and longevity have been before us all this time.” He volunteers lectures and motivational speeches to community groups and organizations about managing hunger as the “road map to a healthier life.”
