Carla J Field

Carla J. Field is a longtime, award-winning journalist, who now spends her time writing fiction and historical fiction.

Her love of both oral and written history began after she was born and raised in the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts, an area rich in American history. Her adult life has been that of a television news journalist, which required a daily inquisitiveness about life and human behavior. Along the way, she grew to respect and enjoy research, especially the tools available through the Internet.

Field started writing professionally in the 1980s, and won several awards for short stories and poetry, before beginning a 25-year career as a television and digital news journalist and manager. During those years, she was honored with several Associated Press and Society of Professional Journalism awards, and an Edward R. Murrow Award.

For someone with a lifelong combined love of word-craft, history and writing – as well as a deep curiosity about the way human lives intertwine -- the logical evolution created a passion for historical fiction.

Her debut historical fiction novel, “When He Was Gone,” with its roots deep in Carolina history, was published in August 2024.
