Dr. Cynthia Lea Long

Dr. Cynthia Lea Long is the Lead Chaplain at Sunnyside Communities in Harrisonburg, Virginia and the former Chaplain at Western State Psychiatric Hospital in Staunton, Virginia. Long has served as the Grief Support Specialist for Lutheran Family Services of Virginia, an adjunct professor at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and is an ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. She is also a Certified Grief Counselor through the American Institute of Health Care Professionals (AIHCP).

Dr. Long received her Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree at the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, and her Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary

Long has authored Death is No Stranger: Helping Children Grieve (CSS Publishing) and Life after Suicide: Survival, Hope, and Healing (CSS Publishing). In her free time, she enjoys running, reading, volunteering at the Waynesboro Police Department, yard work and painting (acrylic art). Dr. Long currently lives in Waynesboro, Virginia.
