Sean Batty was born in Paisley in 1982 and dreamed of being a weatherman since he was just seven years old. He attended South Primary in Paisley, Carron Primary in Falkirk, and Castlehead High in Paisley. At 18, Sean left Scotland to study meteorology at Reading University.
Sean’s career began at the Met Office as a weather observer at Middle Wallop army air base in Hampshire. He then worked behind the scenes at ITV Weather before joining the BBC. During his time at the BBC he presented both radio and TV broadcasts for almost all of the English regions, BBC Wales and for BBC Northern Ireland.
In August 2007, Sean joined STV as the sole weather presenter, producing and presenting up to 21 broadcasts a day. Sean is also an ambassador for the STV Children's Appeal, raising funds through various physical challenges since 2011.
In 2019, Sean hosted his own TV show, "Sean’s Scotland", which showcased the country's weather, environment, people, and wildlife. The show was STV's highest-rated local programme for three years. He also presented "Sean's Very Scottish Hogmanay," achieving the highest Hogmanay viewing figures in 13 years.
Sean's next venture is the Met Academy, set to launch soon, aimed at providing teachers and parents with resources to educate children about weather and climate, with a special focus on Scotland.
