John Van Dyke

I did not expect to write a book when I started in 2017, on the journey trying to understand what was happening to my country. Not sure what I expected, but I knew I needed to understand what was happening to us. I traveled on road trips around the country, approaching strangers and asking if they would talk to me. My little video outfit gave it an air of importance, recording them as we talked, and almost all were eager to talk. Over 130 people in 34 states. Surprised that someone wanted to hear their story. Seven years later I humbly share that experience, talking about what I found on the road in my book, BOOM! It’s a Big Country for an Old Man.

So much has shifted and changed during this time, yet we are still trying to figure out who we are. I didn’t get any real answers, but I did come away with understanding. I now know something about us and our places. It is why I want to share my journey with you in my book.

Born in Seattle, Washington, John Van Dyke, a successful designer, architect, and branding expert, led an internationally recognized design office based in Seattle. He resides on Bainbridge Island, Washington. BOOM! is his first book.
