Kevin Pomfret is widely regarded as a leading expert on legal and policy issues related to the collection, use, storage, and distribution of geospatial information. He is the founder and Executive Director of the Centre for Spatial Law and Policy, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating the geospatial community on legal issues surrounding geospatial information. He has testified before Congress, participated in United Nations committee meetings, and serves as a member of the UN-GGIM Working Group on Policy and Legal Frameworks for Geospatial Information Management. Kevin was named one of Who's Who Legal's outstanding lawyers in the transport – international space and satellites sector, one of only 47 attorneys to receive this distinction. He has also been listed in The Best Lawyers in America (2021-2024) and was honored as Geospatial Ambassador of the Year by Geospatial World at the 2022 Geospatial World Forum. He teaches Geospatial Law and Ethics at Johns Hopkins University, and regularly conducts global training and workshops on legal and policy issues related to geospatial information management. His book Geospatial Law, Policy and Ethics: Where Geospatial Technology is Taking the Law was published in August 2024. Earlier in his career, Kevin worked as a satellite imagery analyst at the National Photographic Interpretation Center, where he helped develop imagery collection strategies and identified requirements for future collection systems.
