Paul Bacon

1942 I was born in Bedford town UK. I have six children, four with my first wife Joy, and two with my second wife Liz. Most of my working life I have been self employed. Leaving school at 15 I served an apprenticeship in the meat trade. On completion I worked in the meat retail trade. I bought my first home in Cambridge and managed a butcher’s section in a large supermarket. My journey in life then took me to Newcastle upon Tyne. I opened my own butcher’s shop on the Longbenton council estate. It was successful until supermarkets took trade away. I sold the shop and went into my next business “home repairs and maintenance”. It was called “Ophir Resources”. Working for myself I was able to do charity work in Romania for street children and community work for the long term unemployed. My children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and lovely wife are central in my life.

I retired when I was 65 and continued to spend more time playing drums in jazz bands. It has been a hobby of mine for over 65 years. During covid I wrote my first book. I was 79 years old, it is called “Heads Turned To Jazz”. Since then I have written eight more non fiction books and have just published “Pauls Anthology of Poetry”. I am now 83 years old and pleased I can leave some books for you and the next generations to read. I write about my life, opinions, what I believe and some of the events of my time. “Enjoy yourself it’s later than you think” is one of my favourite songs. Read and enjoy.
