Always interested in motoring history (grade 1 CSE), James bought all sorts of MOT borderline Bangers that were prehistorically awful. once sold cars then switched to writing about used ones. Spent many years driving around the country looking at car lots and talking to blokes who sold them. Wrote for newspapers including The Independent, The Sunday Times and Evening Standard. Best known as a writer for Car magazine, Autocar, Performance Car, Supercar Classics and many others. Author of the best selling The British Car Industry, Our Part in its Downfall and the award winning, The German Car Industry, My Part in its Victory (both available here). Dreamt up the word Bangernomics in 1990. Founded Free Car Mag the only consumer car magazine launched in the last decade. Believes we are being Demotorized (book available here).
