Anthony Hancock

On December 7th, 1986, the author Anthony David Hancock Sr. took his first breath at St. Anthony’s Hospital in North Denver, CO. Oldest child of 3, Anthony spent the majority of his life in Colorado where he was proudly expelled from Heritage High School in Littleton in 2001. From there he excelled at Options alternative high school where he is credited for the birth of their mascot, a phoenix rising from the ashes, which has became a metaphor for his life. His formal education continued at Red Rocks Community College where he pivoted from business to emergency medicine after the loss of his mentor in the tattoo field and hopes of becoming a tattoo artist and shop owner. While certified in advanced EMT and firefighting, Hancock was conducting “field research” in the self destructive field of professional alcoholism. Having two children of his own, and faced with the harsh realities of addiction and loss of close friends, Anthony chose to confront his alcoholism and, as of the time this was written, has abstained from alcohol for 1,084 days. With the support of his grandparents, Anthony embarked on this project with the hopes of communicating the difficulty of being the best parents we can be while overcoming chemical dependence.
