R Brian Stone

R Brian Stone, citizen of the world, is an Associate Professor of Design. His award-winning work and teachings are centered in the areas of motion design, interaction design, information visualization, and user experience.

 

He is the author of Stories, Quips, and Quotes: A Designer’s Guide to Teaching and Learning. This collection of captivating anecdotes, personal experiences, insightful reflections, and pithy quotes, demonstrate the power of narrative in fostering a dynamic and memorable learning experience. This and is a must-read for those seeking to inspire creativity, foster meaningful connections, and establish the right mindset for success.

 

Professor Stone is the co-founder of the bi-annual MODE Summit, an international conference bringing together motion design educators to present research and discuss the discipline. In addition, he is the co-editor of a collection of essays entitled, The Theory and Practice of Motion Design: Critical Perspectives and Professional Practice published by Routledge.

 

He is a frequent speaker at conferences and universities and has held visiting appointments at universities in South and Central America, East and Southeast Asia, and Europe. He is the author of several articles on the subjects of UX/UI and Motion Design. His essay, Type in Motion is included in the book Teaching Motion Design: Course Offerings and Class Projects from the Leading Undergraduate and Graduate Programs edited by Steven Heller and Michael Dooley.

 

He has held positions at the National University of Singapore, University of the Arts (Philadelphia) and The Ohio State University (OSU). He has also held visiting appointments at universities in South and Central America, Asia, and Europe.

 

Apple recognized Professor Stone’s teaching with the Apple Distinguished Educator award. He is also a recipient of the Ratner Distinguished Teaching Award, The Ohio State University Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching, the Order of Omega Faculty Recognition Award, and the National University of Singapore’s Annual Teaching Excellence Award. Additionally, Professor Stone was honored as a Teaching Academy Fellow (NUSTA) at the National University of Singapore.

 

Professor Stone holds a MA and MFA in Design from The Ohio State University and a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of the Arts. He is an antique car enthusiast, avid traveler, and dabbles in playing the steel pan drum.
