Sanjoy Mazumder

Sanjoy Mazumder, from a Vaishya Kapali background and his parents migrated from East Pakistan to India after Independence. The Vaishya Kapalis or Kapalis are a Hindu caste spread primarily throughout West Bengal, India and Bangladesh. They are reputed to have at one time been Brahmins but have lost that status in the caste system.

The Kapalis were originally Shaivites belonging to the school of Kashmir Shaivism and once upon a time they migrated to Bengal during Muslim invasion of Kashmir. Later they embraced Buddhism. After the Bhakti movement of Shri Chaitnyadeb, the Kapalis became Vaishnavas. In the present day, the majority of the Kapalis are Vaishnavas with a minority being Shaktas. The Kapalis follow the religious rituals with great devotion and piety. The Kapalis have separate Brahmins known as Goswamis.

Born and brought up in a refugee colony in the Bank of Darakeshwar river of Bankura Distrct of West Bengal. Struggled hard to get education from Bishnupur High School, best school in the Bishnupur subdivision. It was a sheer determination to get education and the support of family consisting of parents, two elder brothers, one elder sister gave him chance to get some education and finally completed Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

After completion of Diploma Engineering did a private job for few years and later started his own Business. Travelled extensively throughout India and realized the different cultures and customs in India. It was a quite upheaval journey but the thirst for education and knowledge never died down.
